Atomic Footprints

100 000 years ago we were just becomming human. Modern humans were just evolving and spreading accross the world. In 100,000 years from now the radioactive wastes produced to make todays hot shower and cup of tea will still be toxic.

Some of the wastes left behind by the nuclear industry, like the tailings at Roxby Downs in South Australia, will still be radioactive when our planet ceases to exist. It is hard to think of an act of greater vandalism, to ourselves and to all future life on our planet.


John Howards longevity as leader of Australia does not quite compare to the logevity of nuclear waste, but it's starting to feel like it. If he is re-elected and allowed to continue with his push for more uranium mining, more nuclear power and a radioactive waste dump, then his legacy will be one of uncountable years of toxic waste, not just numerous years of racism, squander and neglect.

As ever, there is only one solution to the problem of weapons proliferation and radioactive waste - to leave the Uranium in the Ground.

Atomic footprints uses archival footage, some of my own archives and some recently recorded footage to examine the nuclear fuel chain, and some of the reasons why we should continue to oppose it.
